Online Safety

At Henry Tyndale School, online safety is of paramount importance for our students. Computers, ipads,  gaming machines and other types of technology are important for our students' learning and as leisure activities in school, at home and in the community.  We have developed our online safety curriculum to support our students to be able to access these online activities safely

The progression of how Online Safety is taught at Henry Tyndale School

EYFS to KS2 (according to individual student needs)

The following concepts will be being taught in a variety of contexts which will underpin our students understanding of how to be safe online

  • Yes/No
  • Asking for help
  • Public/private
  • Consent
  • Safe & unsafe
  • Playing together
  • Happy & Sad

KS2 formal learners & KS3 to KS5 (according to individual student needs)

Some of our learner will continue to work on their understanding of the concepts listed above whilst others will move onto applying these concepts to keeping themselves safe online. These key areas will be covered

- our PSHE framework covers these areas in more detail

  • Identifying personal information and what can be shared and not shared
  • Understand that passwords should not be shared
  • Internet and technology can be used to communicate with others and who we should and should not communicate with.  Understand that people are not always who they say they are online.
  • When and who to ask for help
  • How to identify or ask for help identifying which content is appropriate to access online
  • Understand that what we post online might affect ourselves or others and know who to ask for help if required

Staff received online safety training and updates so that they are able to support our students to be safe online.  This training helps them to be able to identify risks and respond to concerns appropriately.  Staff report online safety concerns to the DSL and log them on our safeguarding platform My Concern.  These concerns are then followed up in appropriate manner with the students and their parents

We give updates to parents on current online safety risks in our school newsletters.  We also host online safety training for parents.  Please contact the office for more details
