PE and Sports Premium 2017-2018

PE and Sport Premium for Primary Schools – 2017-2018

PE and Sport Premium for Primary Schools was paid to Henry Tyndale school for 2017-2018 was £13,195 and this year.  The Department for Education specifies that

. . . . you should use the premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

and that you should NOT use the funding to

  • teach the minimum requirements of the national curriculum - including those specified for swimming (or, in the case of academies and free schools, to teach your existing PE curriculum)

At Henry Tyndale School we know that our children and parents really value the teaching of swimming and the provision of hydrotherapy for the children. The National Curriculum only requires this in one year and we offer it throughout all years - the premium was largely used to offset the very significant additional costs of the school pool in the 2017/18 year. In addition to the cost of running a school pool and funding lessons outside for older and more physically able children the teaching of swimming also entails higher staff ratios than other lessons and I estimate that the equivalent hours of a full time LSA are additionally used each year to support this subject. We find this is the most effective way to ensure widespread access to quality physical exercise for the children. In addition we also provided some specialist sports coaching for our primary children so they were able to work with school staff and with sports specialists at the same time
