Ipads as communicators

AAC devices

Generally, once students who require AAC have reached Phase 4 of PECs consideration is given to other means of communication. For some students there is an option to use an AAC device with suitable software to aid their communication - usually this will be an iPad with Grid 3 software. To ensure students get the best out of their communication devices AAC language development is broken down into stages with different programs tailored for stage the student is currently working at and the curriculum pathway they access at school

Students are assessed as to their suitability for this means of communication in conjunction with a speech therapist to ensure that this form of communication is best suited to their individual needs.
